How to Do-Draw a Dodo

How to Do-Draw a Dodo

Have you ever wished you could draw a Dodo?

The legendary illustrator and compiler of the Dodo Pad, Naomi McBride, through whose talented hands Lord Dodo works, has put together a Five Step Guide for drawing your own Dodo.

YOU can draw a Dodo!

Naomi hand draws the Dodo Pad every year - for more on the creative process behind the Dodo Pad, see Dodo Design - Then and Now.

She used a Pilot V5 Hi-tecpoint Extra Fine. We don’t sell them on dodopad.com, but they are readily available -we would buy from either Cult Pens or Cass Art. She likes these pens because they are the finest that will successfully digitally scan when creating the Dodo Pad.

Of course, you can have a go with any instrument you like - a pencil, a biro, a Sharpie, a dip pen or, Lord Dodo’s favourite, a quill pen. (Do you know why it called a ‘pen’? The early writing instruments were made with the feathers of a female swan; whilst a male swan is a cob, a female swan is a pen.)

Take a piece of paper, any paper, but I would, of course, recommend a Dodo Pad Blank Book for this, and follow the instructions below.

Dodo Pad Blank Books have 128 pages of sustainable 120gsm recycled coffee cup paper, are made in the UK and are plastic free. Ideal sketch books

Once you have your Dodo DoDrawing of DoDistinction, share it with us on Facebook, Instagram with the hashtag #mydododrawing or by email to lorddodo@dodopad.com and we can post it on social media for you. Do it by one minute to midnight on Wednesday 19th October and you could WIN a Monogrammed Dodo Pad Slipcover with a Dodo Pad Blank Book, with a combined value of £61.98! Two runners up will each get a Dodo Pad Blank Book.

Entries will be judged by the Dodo Pad Design Panel of Naomi, our illustrator, Mafalda, our Managing Director, Robert, Mafalda’s husband who helps occasionally and Lucy, our social media guru.

Happy DoDrawing!

You’ve written terrific content on this topic, which goes to show how knowledgable you are on this subject. I happen to cover about SEO on my personal blog Webemail24 and would appreciate some feedback. Thank you and keep posting good stuff!

    I love it!

I have been drawing Dodos for the last hour ever since seeing this. Don’t make the head too big when you start otherwise you will run out of paper. I will try to draw one facing left tonight.

    Thank you Dodo Pad!
